I’m looking for any advice one might give me for how to care for newly potted propagations. I had some cuttings from my Ficus Daniella plant in some water and two of them grew rather long roots! The two that took I have no potted in some soil with some perlite for extra drainage. But I hear that it can be hard for propagated cuttings to adapt to soil after rooting in water. So any advice one this subject is very much appreciated. I’m also attempting other propagations of tree branches from my local park.

Usually I will make sure the soil is a chunky mix (potting soil, orchid bark, and perlite) and I water them from frequently than I would my other plants for the first 2-3 weeks. After that I will start watering less and less . It seems to be working for my red maranta , neon pothos, and monstera adonsonii propagation.

Awesome thank you! I need to track down somewhere that sells orchid bark or coco coir because drainage was something I discovered the importance of quite recently with a few of my plants retaining water a bit too much 😂. This soil with perlite seems to be working quite well but I’ll find some!

I get my orchid bark from Amazon but if you can get to your local plant nursery/shop they should have it there.

Oh yes! I do actually have some of that and tried it so I’m glad to hear you do it and it works for you :,)

I’ve heard some folks will slowly add their soil mixture into the water overtime. Then it will slowly acclimate the plant to growing in the new media. That might help in the future, though I’ve never tried it personally.
