Hello All, I did not have luck repotting a string of pearls and so I am trying to propagate. Can you please advise if I am doing this correctly? I have several leaves on top of soil and I am misting. (1) A few are showing growth but not all. It appears I pressed several into the soil and some are sitting on top. Those on top are growing - does the depth make a difference. (2) Also, I assume the soil cannot dry out and that may be the issue as well. (3) should I have put the leaves (?) in the center or spread out as I have done. TIA🙏

First I’ll say I didn’t know you could prop string of pearls like this lol so maybe an expert will answer after me. But this looks like what I did for other succulents and it worked for me. Looks like several of yours have roots. I think it’s just a waiting game. I stopped misting and started using a plant watering squeeze bottle thingy to prevent getting water on leaves. I don’t think they need to be super wet all the time and they can dry out a bit..? This is because they are actually getting water from the leaves themselves. I think I read somewhere you don’t even need to water them until they are rooting or growing so I backed off a bit and mine are growing slowly. But I’ve also read they should be given water so it’s unknown to me on that but like I said they are drawing water from the leaves. A lot of people say to just ignore them. I think they don’t need that much water. Placement seems good. I’d maybe move the ones right on the edge over a bit so they have space and are not right against the pot. Hope this helps and doesn’t confuse the issue. But I’d say good job!! You’ve got roots! I’m sure not all of them will take and they will take at different times so patience is key.

Oh I’ve also seen it work with leaves on top and in soil but I think on top is better..? I have one buried and it did grow eventually just a little buried at the moment

If you skip the misting it will encourage the roots to grow in search of the soil for when the resources run out of the leaves

If I skip the misting, is it ok that the soil remains dry? Kate mentioned that above, they get the moisture from the leaves. Ty!

yup! i have a coppertone stonecrop that will drop a leaf here and there in the windowsill and those leaves will root or even start teeny tiny new plants if i don’t notice them for a while and sweep them away lol

You’re right! I couldn’t remember the name and string of pearls popped into my head. The leaves aren’t round. Thank you!
