I am fairly new to having plants. Im hoping to get some help because I'm not quite sure what is wrong with this aloe plant. I think it needs repotted but I don't know if I can do that in the winter? I have soil and a pot ready for it if so. I also don't know if it's receiving too much or too little water or what the pink developing on the tips is from? I want it to be happy. I just don't know what I'm doing wrong. Any help or insight would be so greatly appreciated! Especially on whether I can repot in the winter? The only 2 options for where I can put it are either North or South facing windows. Thank you! Join the conversation ○

    It definitely looks like it could use a repot! Those roots are wild 😍 only go up an inch or two in pot size though, and make sure that the pot has drainage holes. It is fine to repot in the winter! The discolored tips are likely from dehydration from being so compacted into that pot. Unfortunately, those tips won’t recover, but repotting will help it from happening anymore. Definitely self facing window for it! That will provide the hours of full son that they like 💚

      Completely agree with Morgan here! I’d snip the really withered and brown leaf at the bottom off, but aloes can turn brown dehydration and exposure to direct sun while the leaves were wet. Try not to fool with the roots during the repot and simply place it in a new pot 1-2 inches wider in diameter than the width of the plant’s current root ball, then fill any gaps between the plant and rim of the pot with some fresh cactus mix. Gently shake the pot a little afterward to help the soil settle down the sides and to the bottom. The fresh soil will offer new nutrients for your plant and a little extra protection from the cold between the roots and the pot. I’d opt for the south-facing window so it gets as much sun as possible until spring. Even a north facing window that gets as much as 4 hours in the summertime will receive less than that in the winter, so even the brightest south facing window shouldn’t be too bright for your aloe. Hope this helps!
