SOS in need of advice on what to do with this guy. It was a huge Croton my husband acquired from work (best teacher award) about a month and a half ago and it was doing great then all of a sudden TONS of leaves just dropped from it. I don’t know if it’s not enough sun or not enough water (I give 2 cups of water every time 2 inches of soil is dry???). How do I fix this?? Please help!
It's most likely light given that they like more light than they seem! Most thrive outdoors in full sun rather than indoors

I agree with tokkomio and I’d like to add that if it’s not receiving 8-10 hours of bright sunlight you can get a 6000 lumen grow light and supplement 12-14 hours of light! I’d also check the roots! If they are overgrown repot in a clear (to track root health) plastic pot 1-2in bigger than the rootball :)

I would definitely unearth it from that moss and check the roots.

There’s a solid chance it’s a light or watering issue, but my hunch is the biggest problem is pests. Crotons are notorious for being little pest magnets. Unless you’re getting one from a really high quality grower it was almost guaranteed infested when you got it. Even with multiple rounds of various pest treatments I’ve never been able to keep a croton pest-free. They aren’t welcome in my home anymore because of that reason haha
