Mayday! Some spider plant babies I adopted! I put them in soil and water them 2 ish times a week but they look so unhealthy and dry. In fact, looking at past pictures which I attached, it seems they’re getting worse! I just read that the babies need to be propagated in water- which I did not do. It’s been a few weeks now… is it too late to pull them out and stick them in water? What are my chances here, need proof of life!
I mean if it was me I'd pull them out and stick them directly into some water I don't know why it would be too late, but I'm no expert and I've got a million spider babies I need to propagate I have three different kinds of spider plants too now I'm super excited

좋아요 1개 I'm very new to plants as well like I really started maybe 8 months ago Its more of an addiction than a hobby I've got t over 100 houseplants now ,🤦♀️🤣🪴🩷 I just bought my curly n reverse variegated week🤸🥹 🩷

Either water more, or pop them out and put them in water. If they had no or very small root systems they need more water to uptake.

Spider plants can tolerate lots of kinds of soil, but i think this pot is a liiittle bit too packed. You can mix in a little gravel/pearlite/bark to loosen it up and let the roots breathe.
0개 좋아요Gotcha, I’m just not sure they’ve grown any roots yet. Would the soil being too packed affect they’re ability to grow roots?
0개 좋아요 Yes, roots need air to grow, as well as the rest of the plant, thats why we change water when propagating ;) Also, what do you mean they havent grown roots yet? Do you mean theyre freshly propagated with only hair roots? If so, they definitely need more air!
0개 좋아요I just cut them and stuck them in the soil, so I’m not sure that there are any roots at all yet!
0개 좋아요 Well, that will do it 😭 its much more finicky to propagate plants than that. They need several weeks in fresh water to grow roots, then you set them in soil. Even then, they need a warm humid environment to stay alive and foster growth. The good news is spider plants are pretty common and cheap and you can get more easily. Next time, put the ends in water and keep them in a moist ziploc bag.
