Hi Everyone! My False Shamrock bush was amazing at first during summer just gone. Now that light levels have dropped a little etc I have been supplementing with a grow light. Unfortunately I've noticed that the leggy-ness has continued and the stems have bent in a odd way leaving the plant to appear almost bald even during the day. I've heard that the only way to bring them back is by fully cutting them back and regrowing however I wanted to ask if anyone else has experienced this before and how best did they overcome it?

    I've had one of these for years, I've never used a grow light though, but they do just lose leaves and die back over the winter often. I wouldn't personally bother cutting it back, the stems will just drop and die themselves then you pull them off once they've wilted, I find it quite satisfying haha.

    And personal I don't think it looks leggy, it probably just looks like it to you because it's not as bushy and you can see the stalks. If you've ever repotted it you will see how tough and weird looking the roots and rhizomes are. They come and go, I had one that I thought was dead for ages but it sprang back for me in the spring this year!

      Thanks for your feedback, it's defo leggy, just cant tell the best in the photo I have attached, but it's gone extremely leggy and looks almost bald. It's stems have also severely dropped since my above photo... not too sure what's up... I'm putting it down to Winter dieback

    Sorry I could bang on about this plant all day, it's my favourite 😊 I doubt it would need a grow light, they're leaves are quite delicate and partial to scorching, but perhaps others have different experience with a grow light?

    I got mine 2 weeks ago ( I read they were easy) but now some leaves are turning green, some leaves at the bottom are looking soggy and it doesn't look as nice anymore.

    Mine was so beautiful, I’d wanted one for ages and bought one that looked lovely from a reputable garden centre. It flowered and then within a week was looking leggy. I moved it to a brighter spot and it’s died. I don’t really know what I did wrong - I followed along with the advice from Planta. Can’t quite bring myself to completely write it off yet, even though it’s just stringy with no life.

    I have had one for about three years now and never let it go dormant. I knew I was supposed to do that for the health of the plant, but was too frighten to do so. Mine is looking quite sparse and leggy so I am going to use Planta’s advice, and attempt a dormant cycle this winter. Has anyone attempted this?

      I ended up making mine go dormant shortly after I posted this.. removed all stems and brought it right back... I'm really hoping she comes back next year!

    I learned that mine needs a lot more watering than recommended, it’s soaks it up so fast

    Once mine starts to not look as full as I would like, I half it and make another plant. Just make sure to spread the roots well in both pots.

    Cut all the stems right down to the base. It will grow back thicker and healthier
