Welp, this is your PSA. This is why we quarantine, especially as your plant collection grow bigger. This was a monstera Albo I traded for one of my anthurium. When I repotted, I found fungus gnats (which I don't have even with all my high humidity) Well it had some thrips too! So I'm glad I isolated as there was no signs despite my very thorough inspection at the time of the trade. So luckily, only one casualty rather than having to clean my full collection. Happy collecting and keep that in mind 🌱

    How long was it from when you got it until then? I have one that I keep thinking I’m seeing thrips maybe on it but there’s no damage like that so I can’t figure it out.

      I got it July 25th and it was in high humidity so I was not checking on it as often as I should have been. I was seeing some brown markings on the oldest leaves but I attributed it to the repot. Then last week, I saw that it escalated rather quickly but since it was by itself, I left it until now. This one is a very extreme case but usually, dark dots and discoloration are a dead give away. (I had them in the pas from another trade)

      Some species can be as small as 1mm and they vary between pale yellowish translucent to black. So that can be very hard to spot depending on the individual. Here is an example from the previous trade I was mentioning. That's right next to a vein of the alocasia, which can give an idea of the scale.

      Some of the older leaves are sort of weird color/texture wise but it maybe could have been from overwatering also but I swear I’ve seen the little skinny pale yellow things. I’ve been spraying it will neem oil but there’s never any changes. I still see a little yellow things every once in a while and the plant is growing better than ever so idk. For reference it was basically dead and just trying to come back now haha so yes it still looks bad but trust me this is great for it 😅

      Oh I see, what is your recent leaf looking like? They usually favor new growth but my plant was a cutting so it was pretty much fully recent 😅
