Are these orchids Abel to be saved? What should I do? Someone left them next to the trash so i figured they could be saved if willing to.

    Sanitize some scissors with isopropyl alcohol. Cut off the dead roots (the right one looks to be better cut that one at your own discretion but I think it looks fine). The roots that are still plump, arent falling apart, but still may not look pretty are to be left on because they are alive. As a basic starting point with these, i recommend going basic with an orchid bark mix. No soil, nothing that can retain moisture too long. Orchids like to be sturdy. Their natural habitat is atop of tree branches and the roots act as vines. Water once a week to every 10 days. I like to soak the whole pot and chips in a bottom water for a while so the bark can absorb the water completely. They enjoy humidity, but they hate being waterlogged. A good sign of needing water is silvery. Withered roots**, and a very light pot.

    If you can get it, I find tree fern fiber either on its own or with a bit of perlite or pumice mixed in to be far easier to gauge when to water compared to orchid bark. It’s expensive but I’ve noticed a big difference in growth and health when I switched my epiphytes over to it. I rehab all my anthuriums in it too.

    Since the roots look mildly rotted, treat them with hydrogen peroxide. Just a splash or a brief dip in it should kill off any mold, but you can re-treat every other day or every third day if needed. Plants like sound, so playing music can help them recover
