I need some help please. I bought this beauty back in July, her name is Fiona. I told them I was a first time plant owner and needed something easy. This is what they sold me. I took it home only to find it infested with pests. I have no idea what kind. It was my 1st plant, I was mortified!! I took it outside, took all the soil out, cleaned off all her roots (no idea if this was right or not), hosed them off, then I repotted her using MiracleGro potting soil and a new eco pot. I water her when Planta says to. Is the soil packed too tight it looks harder than the rest of my plants. That's the only thing i really see. ? She hasn't produced any leaves since I've had her and she drops a leaf about monthly. Her underneath twigs are dry and flaking off. And the underneath of two more leaves are turning brown. Please help me save this beauty!

    Fiddle leaf figs are notoriously finicky! They're fairly hardy but they can be divas if the conditions aren't just right. (I haven't owned one myself but used to take care of one in the office at an old job, so take my advice with a grain of salt because it's been a while. I hope someone who owns one will weigh in!) Are you checking the moisture in the soil before watering? Even when Planta tells me it's time to water, I always double check with a wooden skewer inserted into the soil. (It's the same concept as when you check brownies in the oven with a toothpick—if soil is stuck to the skewer when it comes up, it might not be quite ready, but if the skewer comes up clean, the soil is dry and needs water.) I'm honestly not sure if the brown spots could be a result of overwatering or not. If the soil is packed tightly, you might want to try aerating the soil too—poking some holes in it with a skewer will help the roots get more oxygen. I can't tell from the picture but sometimes when the soil is compact and hard, it can be a sign that the soil has gone hydrophobic and isn't absorbing the water it needs; aerating the soil will also help fix that.

      Thak you Olivia! I know for a fact it is packed tightly. I remember doing it because it was so top heavy I was having a hard time getting it to stay upright. I'll take your suggestion with the aeration. Thank you! And the tips with checking the soil! Awesome! Thank you! I've jumped head over heals into this plant thing and I have abot 10 of them already. :)

    Never start with a fiddle, they are finicky as hell! Mine is also Fiona! They like to dry out btwn waterings, so a looser chunky soil is best, mine LOVE light, all are directly in front of windows. Then ignore them. The plants app tells me to water mine way too much… I only do it every other time they say. I use banana peal water and I water from the bottoms

      Thank you Gena. I did move her from an East-facing window to a west-facing window and within 2 weeks she gave me 2 new leaves on top! This is the 1st new growth she's given me since I purchased her in June! So maybe it was the move? Maybe it was the aeration? Who knows with this diva! But her branches are still so black and dry and flaking? This is concerning. My husband wants me to throw her in the trash 😞 I am also noticing mushrooms in the soil. I've replaced the 1st 2" of soil but the mushrooms keep coming back. Do you think I should completely replace all of her soil??

      The branches and stems are naturally dry and flaky. That’s normal and how they are!
