This is my first golden pothos bought from a target (so, not great off to begin with). And ever since first bought, the leaf stems have been brown and sometimes limp at their base, with some of the leaves also having brown spots. I've had the plant for a few days now, and was keeping it in direct sunlight. Should I move the plant to a less-lit spot?
It sounds like there may be an issue with the roots, potentially root rot. Direct sun can burn them so that could be what the black spots are from. I don't know exactly what pothos like but most plants don't love direct sun all the time

Remove all the old soil, soak the roots for 5 minutes in a 1 to 3 ratio of hydrogen peroxide to water. Rinse off and cut all root rot off. Repot in a mix with more drainage. Pot size should be no more than 1-2 inches larger than the root ball. A south east window is great if you have one. A window with morning sunlight (more gentle) and indirect light for the rest of the day.

I agree about checking the roots. It doesn’t look healthy and that might be more than just too much sun.
