Forgive my question, but what is “chunky” soil? I’m a new member to the group, reading the posts and replies. This is interesting.

Good question! I feel like a lot of us, myself very much included, get so used to using certain plant terms that we forget it’s not common knowledge. So chunky soil is when the stuff making up the mix (bark chips, perlite, charcoal, pumice, etc) are very large sized rather than powdery. Chunky soil is known for allowing air flow around the roots because the big chunks don’t settle together the way traditional potting soil does, so there’s plenty of air pockets around the plant’s roots
5 Me gustaThanks so much. Far “chunkier” than I ever would’ve expected. Lots to learn.
