I started this gardenia from a clipping about 2 years ago. I repotted about a year ago. It was doing beautifully until 2 - 3 months ago. Planta first diagnosed transplant shock but I had done that a year before. I’ve actually had a bloom in the past year. A month ago a nursery said it was sunburn so I relocated it. Now the new growth looks washed out. Help! I don’t want to lose it. The bush I took the clipping from was a large old healthy bush.
Have you got your magnifying glass out to look for pests? Have you given it some fertilizer? I would say it needs more indirect light. You said someone told you it got sunburnt but i think it needs more light. You also could be watering it to much since you moved it away from the sun. It could be any of these things.. but check for pests under and in-between and in the soil..

Is here drainage in that pot? Check the roots and go from there. The pot looks kind of small… Gardenias are like roses — they’re outside plants. Are you growing it in your house? If so, put it in a pot with drainage and set it outside — morning sun afternoon shade if you can help it. A couple of leaves look like nutrient deficiency, which could be an uptake problem. They like acidic soil, so use fertilizer that’s meant for acid-loving plants like azaleas. This is what I use on mine (pic). It’s super inexpensive, but my gardenia is happy with it while in full, hot sun in Hawaii. 🥴 (Do as I say not as I do) I literally treat it like my roses— heavy water in the morning, scratch in this fert every 10 to 12 weeks or so. I know you said it bloomed before, but sometimes plants will throw up a bloom or two in an effort to set seed and save their species. lol 😅 It’s possible the plant has been telling you that it needs something for quite some time. It’s also possible it was happy blooms, but without knowing the plant intimately— all I can say is check the roots and go from there.
I have drainage in the pot. Most of the light is indirect and I think the pot is large enough. Nutrient deficient is what I’ve thought.

I had this happen to my gardenia also. I found spider mites and got rid of those. Still getting bleached out leaves so I plucked those leaves, added iron pellets, put in front of a grow light and finally, started using a humidifier faithfully. I haven’t had older leaves getting bleached out and new growth is coming in dark green. Good luck. I am on my third gardenia. Very tricky plant indoors.
