My peperomia keeps dropping leaves and idk why I have another peperomia I treat the same and is thriving so I'm thinking repot? I recently watered her but before her soil was crazy compacted

    I’d be happy to help you troubleshoot. I’ve got the same peperomia. You can start by narrowing down the possible causes to try to find the most likely culprit. 1. Soil. I keep mine in a mix of 70% Espoma’s Organic All-Purpose Mix and 30% Espoma’s Organic Cactus and Succulent mix. It’s possible it was potted in something that isn’t well draining enough, or simply hasn’t been repotted in some time. 2. Watering. I know the app says that they should be watered when the top layer of soil is dry, but the obtusifolia and clusifolia varieties of peperomia have succulent like leaves, and I’ve found they actually enjoy completely drying out between waterings. I bottom water mine to reduce the risk of overwatering and attracting pests to the top soil. I’ve also been bottom watering them because despite the app claiming you should mist some peperomia, they actually tend to hate getting their leaves wet. I don’t ever wipe or mist mine, or increase their humidity. 3. Pots/Potting. They do not like ceramic or self watering pots, from my experience. And they enjoy getting root-bound and being snug in their pots, so if you’re planning on repotting, make sure the pot is only 1-2 inches larger in diameter than the root ball. Mine are all in plastic pots with multiple drainage holes, but terra cotta ones with a large drainage hole are great if you’re worried about overwatering

      The biggest thing I’d want you to check is actually if Planta has changed the number of days between waterings for one of your peps, but not the other. I’ve noticed a glitch since May where Planta will literally say to water it much earlier than you should for your specific plant, but will give the correct number of days, a completely different number, given the month and climate if you look the same plant up through the ID search section. I’m currently beta testing for the app, and have requested they fix this multiple times now, but it’s affected half of my plants and I remedied it by checking them each by the ID search then going to the plant’s individual settings and changing the watering to a “custom care schedule” to match what the ID search calls for. The roots look healthy, and I would imagine you’ve likely checked for pests already, so if one pep is doing well, but the other isn’t, and you’re doing the same thing for them, I would guess it has to do with this glitch.       Gosh, this is a major bug which most people will never notice. Would be great to get some input from Planta here
