Is there any chance i can save this? My neighbor gave it to me like this and i want to try to save it? Any tips if i can?

    Recently my basil plant got like that (some yellowish leaves, dying leaves and stems hardening), what was happening was that the roots were dying because the soil had hardened. Have you tried repotting? It can be put back on the same pot, but shaking the soil and breaking apart the roots could help
