When I got this plant, the person at the greenhouse told me that hers started to turn brown because she forgot to water it for 2 days. I took her seriously and made sure it didn't dry out. In hindsight, I repotted it in soil that was too compact and too moist for 2 days. The plant looked like it started melting, the leaves started to open very wide and look like they were about to fall off the stem. I grabbed it out of the pot by the root ball, and put it in a larger terracotta and let it dry out almost all the way before I put it in well draining soil and watered it. My question is, how can I make it happier? What should I prune off? Anything unhealthy should go? When you look at the pictures can you describe to me what you would cut off? I understand these are just your opinions, I will make my own decisions based on them.

Honestly I would not prune anything. Unless it's black mold spreading throughout the plant. Otherwise just let her be and try to get in sync with a watering rhythm that she tolerates. With my fern I tried very light but frequent watering for a while, until more recently when we had heat waves at which point I finally gave a few soakings, but I'm honestly back to just giving her a trickle every 3 days untill it feels lighter and more ready for a deep soaking

Another trick to keep things damp can be giving a generous misting I know Google says spritzing is dumb lol but a heavy spritz can make the surface damp again for a day lol
