I'm not sure why my basil have gotten woody and the leaves don't open. Does anyone have suggestions? The bottom leaves get light green or white and then often shrivel up and fall off. I live in southern California and it's September. I am open to recommendations and advice.
the stems getting woody is a natural process called 'corking' when the plant becomes top heavy and struggles to support itself. the leaf loss you're describing is usually caused by the plant trying to flower, or underwatering. it's still hot out (unfortunately) and your plants still need extra water. basil are thirsty!
좋아요 1개Ty ... I was worried that I did something wrong once the wooden stems started getting higher up...I'll increase the watering for my basil....I struggle with finding the right amount, but I'm determined
