I have drowned my Begonia Rex ‘Escargot’🙁 I watered it, watered the rest of my plants and yesterday found it looking like this and standing in water! Obviously, I missed going back and emptying the excess water. It was doing great before this happened. It is in original nursery soil and 4” pot. I have put thickly folded paper towels beneath it to wick extra water out and changed them out several times. What else should I do? Is she goner? Should I remove from the pot to dry out, and if so, what do I do from that point?

    I over water mine often. And a few rexs stay damp. I think it will be fine with the paper towel wicking. That being said, I did have a bunch be part of this watering glitch, and went to 2-3 day cycles. So I've been having to snooze them

      Thank you! I was sure I’d done it in. So no need to empty it out of container and do anything? Just checking myself with that question😊 Thanks again for your input and support!!!

      Personally, the only time i dump them out or repot if I over watered is desert type species. Or if there is a legitimate puddle. If you think it warrants an unpot because it's really wet, it shouldnt hurt anything, and will dry out quicker.

      Concerned I might do more damage. I’ll stick with my paper towel wicking for now. The amount with each change is getting less and less and no water runs out when I gently squeeze the pot-unlike when I discovered it🤦‍♀️

      I just upturned it into my palm and let it slide out about half way. It stayed in the pot shape and it didn’t feel drippy/drowning to me. All the leaves look ghastly, but I presume they can grow back or do they need snipped off?

    That's sounds like its drying out well so far. I would cut anything thats super brown. But most of them still look decent

      Will do. Thank you for the guidance today. I feel much better about her coming through this rather than thinking she was toast.

      Of course. Rex can be so touchy too. I have some in ambient and some in indoor green house. It's a bit of personal training to get each care right

    This is where we are today. Believe it is done for-please let me know your thoughts. 1st photo-the small U shaped whiter bit below my thumb was scarcely under the soil. 2nd photo-is all that is left. After the fat whiter piece there was just black fine hair like, what I assume were roots. I’d already snipped off the petioles. They were just laying flat or over the side of container. When I snipped them today, they were mushy feeling. The only positive thing I have to say is that the soil simply smelled like dirt. No foul smell at all. Looking forward to your thoughts about the situation!
