That needs a much larger pot and much more soil to spread into for its size. There aren’t many leaves because the roots can’t support any more at their current size and with environmental restrictions.
2 Me gustai had a feeling that might be the issue. originally got this plant from Lowe's and this is the pot it came in. any recommendations on what size i should get or what material?
0 Me gustaMoney trees are native to tropical and swampy areas of South America. so all you have to do is get a pot a couple inches larger than the rootball after you un-pot it and see if all the roots are alive and not rotting. If you have never checked on the roots and you got it from lowe’s you need to do that first. Also make sure the new pot that you buy has drainage holes because plants need their soil to have airflow. They also need indirect filtered sunlight, and consistent watering
