So in the space of two days my silver dragon decided to off himself after he was one of my best plants. Down sized the pot as he lost some roots and allowed it to completely dry out. There is a new leaf coming through and the damage seems to of slowed down. Is there anything I can do or may be doing wrong? All my alocasias have humidity trays, are in bright spots but out of direct light and can find any form of pests

Mine did the same thing and it turned out to be root rot. I ended up cutting all the roots off, cleaning it with hydrogen peroxide, and placing it in sphagnum moss to regrow the roots. I just mist the moss when the top layer is dry. It’s down to 1 leaf but it finally stopped declining so hopefully I’ll get new leaves eventually Unfortunately, alocasias are prone to dry rot as well as regular rot. So you can’t let them dry out completely, or over-water

I’ve given it a clean of what roots are left, cut off the two worst leaves and put it in moss until it establishes roots again. Just going to treat it like a corm for a month or so 😊

So far it’s working. The last leaf left has come back, new leaf just opened. So when it has a good root system I’ll take him out of the moss and back into a potting mix.

That’s awful! My silver dragon has been doing so so well too. Could it be a watering issue?

Its roots were pretty much gone. Was doing so well too and then the last time it was watered it just didn’t dry out. At least it wasn’t one of my more expensive ones but still a pain as I really like this one
