So my begonia looked great when I first got it. I put it on my back balnconyIā€™ve been giving it water when the app tells me too with water from my brita. Itā€™s been a couple weeks and I havenā€™t fertilized it yetā€” Iā€™m wondering if itā€™s looking so rough in the second picture because A) maybe too much sun? Or B) it rained recently which I logged in the app and Iā€™m not sure if that made me overwater it? I ended up moving it inside per my plant friends advice, and I also have a shadier spot at my front door. I donā€™t know what kind of soil it came with so maybe thatā€™s a problem too? Any advice would be so helpful

    Droopy leaves is either from drought stress (usually will have some discoloration too), from too much heat, or too much water causing them to become too heavy to support. Iā€™d check the soil and see if itā€™s too much moisture or too dry. Begonias are super sensitive to direct sun as well so if itā€™s outside you wanna keep it cool and shaded.

      Should I get rid of the leaves with discoloration on them? I see mixed things online. Thanks!

      I personally donā€™t remove dying leaves from anything until itā€™s fully spent or unless the leaf is rotting and it might spread. When I leaf starts dying the plant usually starts to take energy back from the leaf which is what causes the discoloration as it dies. If you donā€™t mind seeing the discoloration or damaged leaves then itā€™s fine to trim them, you could even give them a try with propagation.

      Iā€™ll try trimming them! Iā€™m too much of a beginner of a beginner to propagate

      Theyā€™re super easy (theoretically). Iā€™m in the process of propagating like 10 different begonia leaves, 18 pothos cuttings, and some various other plants that needed haircuts. Iā€™m seeing if some of the begonia leaves can be propagated like pothos by just putting it in water, and some by the normal way most people do begonia leaves, cut some of the veins and put it in a super humid place directly against some moist soil and wait for a new plant to appear from each cut.

      Update! I brought it inside and now all the blooms are falling off. Iā€™ve been checking the soil regularly and watering when dry with water from my brita filter. I donā€™t know what Iā€™m doing wrong šŸ˜­

    it could be shocked by the heat outside. begonia aren't really high-heat plants. they're really dramatic, they need consistent moisture in their soil. if they dry out they throw a hissy fit, if you have a roof on your balcony it's likely that it didn't get much water from the rain and you probably waited too long.

      Well I just tracked the rain in the app, but it had me still water the plant according to the schedule. Itā€™s been getting up to the 80s and 90s in my area, so itā€™s maybe itā€™s best I keep it inside? Thank you for your help.

    I agree begonias donā€™t like the heat and a ton of sunlight they prefer part sun and part shade areas, looks like she is thirsty too. My begonia on the deck gets very dramatic when she isnā€™t properly watered
