I need some help with my begonia maculatas. I have three of them, I keep them in a mix of soil, sphagnum moss, orchid bark, and perlite. I run a humidifier consistently and they are in a minimum of 60% humidity at all times, sometimes closer to 75% humidity. The bottoms of their leaves seem to be being “eaten up” by browning edges. It happens so quickly and they get so dry as a result. I’m not letting the soil become water bogged but I’m also not allowing it to dry out completely. Could it be too much light? It did just push out a new beautiful leaf for me and I don’t want it to meet the same fate.

    I think maculata don’t particularly like the constant moisture of moss. I would use some freshly sanitized shears/scissors to trim all the brown damaged material off to prevent the spread. My begonias used to get crispy leaves when I didn’t water often enough but eventually I caught on to a more consistent schedule to where it would dry out 50% of the way, just enough for the roots to breathe and stay slightly damp but never dry dry, and never soggy. Moss deteriorates pretty quickly if it’s kept too wet and can also cause compaction and pockets of extreme moisture
