I think I’m in my begonia era, ya’ll. Admittedly, I have struggled with this genus, both cane and rex (and I was close to saying neither are for me: they can kick rocks), but what a rewarding plant when you finally get it right! Now I’m on to propagating both types. If y'all have any advice, I'm open to it: I struggle with the whole “scoring the leaf” thing. I end up with mush.

    Cane begonias grow well from stem cuttings. They will root in water, or directly in soil. Same for rex begonias, & they can even be grown from petiole cuttings!

    Congratulations!! I have struggled with both too. I had to restart my cane begonia after a root rot issue. Then it was too much light or not enough lol. Same with my Rex types. The velvet leaf ones love my environment but the metallic don’t. I tried propagating a couple of rex from cut leaves but they went mushy like yours. Then I cut a whole leaf and popped the stem in water and it took off. It needed the water changed more often than my Epipremnum or Philodendron, even in distilled water, but it grew roots well. The issue I had was trying to move it out of water and into a pot. I doubt it was the potting mix but who knows? I follow someone on YouTube who had great luck with a semi hydro setup. I think they also prefer a little neglect. The metallic ones I had got turfed out to survive the Aussie summer bc I got so irritated with them and they thrived lol. Now they’re back inside and about to pitch a fit. I’m glad yours are doing so well and good luck with propagating!

    Begonias are such beautiful plants. I love the way their leaves swirl. I think they look like shells 🐚 Good luck with yours. Looks like you have a healthy start

    I’m late to the party but I am also in my begonia era and I’m loving it! They’re so beautiful and unique.. they’re kinda turning into my favorite plant
