Rooibos

Hi all! I just wanted to share my find from yesterday because I am blown away by how beautiful this plant is. Label says Begonia “Black Beauty”. Very recent to getting into plants, however have found Begonias to be striking plants - very quickly becoming one of my favourite types of plants! If you have any recommendations on how to appropriate care for this guy, please let me know. I have a Begonia Polly which I absolutely adore, but feel this guy might be a bit more finicky!     I’m in the same boat, as I purchased four begonias about six months ago. They really are beautiful, and are very striking plants with their lovely colors. I did put them in PON, and they’re doing extremely well. Also, they’re very big drinkers. If you have them in soil, do not let them dry out, otherwise you’ll have crispy edges on your leaves, as I unfortunately found out. Best of luck with your pretty new baby!

      Thanks for that tip Lynda! Mine are currently in soil, however will see how they go for the next few weeks/months and will consider alternatives if need be! That might explain why my Polly has slightly crispy tips! Good to know ☺️

      Just to add to my previous comments, my begonia’s, all four of them, ended up with crispy edges before I transplanted them into PON. Now they’re growing beautifully, and have NO crispy edges on their leaves…🥳!

      I have definitely found she needs a lot of water. She started to very obviously droop a couple days after I brought her home. Will look into PON to see if that’s an alternative that may work better!

      Thank you! So glad to have found her! I’m from just outside of Melbourne in VIC, Australia. I found her at Branch Out Nursery which is mainly an outdoor plant nursery, but they have some winners inside! This is the only time I’ve seen this type of plant at any store so am very lucky to have found her.

      TXS for the info! Unfortunately Australia is a bit too far for me to check out this nursery, since I’m in Oregon. I’d love to visit Australia, and see the great outback, and all her stark beauty. Maybe someday… PS. Good luck with your gorgeous new begonia!
