found this gorgeous girl at my local publix. i can't believe she was only $10, i had to get it!! the leaves are so dark and glossy, i'm obsessed. this is definitely not a normal maculata but i'm not sure what variety it is, looks like a black forest maybe? anyhow, this is my second ever begonia, and my last one.. did not go so well. hopefully this one being a cane begonia will make it easier 😅 taking all the tips and tricks!

0 gillningarI keep my begonias near a bright window with minimal direct sunlight. They like humidity or their leaves get crispy. Even an electric essential oil diffuser next to it (no oils added) will work! Don’t let it fully dry out between watering. It’s beautiful! Good luck!

They’re known as divas for a reason! But when they find their Goldilocks spot, they’re usually a once a week check up on plant. Main issue with the two I’ve had so far, and primarily the first (Rex) was scorched leaves. Especially during the summers, make sure it’s not getting too much sun, even if it’s an east facing window. Mine start doing a lot better once I placed it further away from the window on a desk where it still gets indirect bright light but less of the direct harsh UV rays. Oh, and ofc, humidity and watering. But for that, the top inch soil rule works well. But err on the side of moist (not wet) when in doubt if it needs watering. Also, I found that misting actually didn’t seem to help with mine’s foliage coloring because it left it a little spotty since the water sits there for a bit, even though I misted it lightly like I do for my other plants & now it’s by a humidifier. Sounds like a lot but like I said once the diva finds its Goldilocks spot, you can set it & sort of forget about it. Good luck!

I’ve had one for the last 7 years. She doesn’t always look her finest but that could be because first my bunny, then our sheep ate her back to nubs. She continues to persevere. There is a tricky balance between enough light so she isn’t reaching or crispy. But honestly, if it gets leggy, put a shorter plant in front of it.
