I am pretty new to gardening. This looks like a fungus on my Guilder Rose. Do you agree? How do I get rid of it? The leaves at the top are curling. Thank you in advance. 🥴

    It might be aphids. If you look really close, do you see a lot of little bug bodies? Or is it smooth and powdery even up close? If it is aphids: when the sun has mostly gone down, go out and spray them really thoroughly with a hose sprayer. That’ll get them off initially and buy you time to pick up a treatment such as insecticidal soap or beneficial insects, if you so choose If it’s powdery like fungus, there are fungicidal treatments. I haven’t used any to give you recommendations, so hopefully someone else will pitch in. But in general, any liquid you spray on your plants should be done in time for the leaves to be dry before sunrise. This is because water droplets act like a magnifier for the light and cause the leaves to burn

      Would Neem oil work?

      Nope. Not smooth and powdery. Won’t scrape off. Magnified, they are hundreds of separate teeny tiny white dots. Can’t tell if they are moving. Aphids? Something else?

    This appears to be damage from spider mites. Any Insecticide soap, oil would work.

      Yes. Neem Oil, Neem Max, or Bonide Insecticidal Soap.

      When I zoom in on one leaf on my phone, they appear to be hundreds of separate teeny tiny white something’s. They do not rub off even when I tried vigorously with my fingernail. I don’t see movement but they are so small, I don’t know if I would. Any further diagnosis or treatment?

      Spider mites can damage plants by piercing their cells and sucking out their contents. This damage can appear as: Stippling: Small white or yellow dots on leaves or needles Bronzing: Leaves turn a bronze or bleached color Yellowing: Leaves turn yellow or reddish and may drop off Webbing: Leaves, twigs, and fruit become covered in large amounts of webbing
