Hello. I am a new outdoor gardener. I have had a couple indoor plants and flowers but I just got a walk in Greenhouse from my FIL. Husband is going to make is more sturdy before I add plants and flowers in. I have a question: yesterday I got a Hadspen Blue Hosta and Planta is saying the only good spot for it is my patio. I was wondering, would the Greenhouse be a good spot for it too? There is a cover for the Greenhouse, we just need to fix it a bit. Thanks for the advice.
What zone are you and what direction does your home face? I planted hostas last year that stated they were “full sun” so they went in on the east side of my home (in Nashville - 7B) and it nearly killed them. I moved them to an almost full shade bed (still on the east side) and they are thriving…but barely get direct light and only for 1-2 hours a day). Your greenhouse should be good if you don’t let it get too hot and can provide shade in part of it to help filter the light. Depending on your home’s orientation a bed next to the house that gets only morning light and Is shaded by the house would also work.
0件のいいねMy zone is 6b- Idaho. My house faces west so my Greenhouse in the backyard is east. We don't have any trees in either yards. Also we have a dog that his curiosity get the best of him, so we had to put the Greenhouse away from the house so he won't get to it. Do you think a cover over the Greenhouse would help at all, for shade? I was going to wait to get it until summer, but if needed I can get it early.
0件のいいね lol…I am literally visiting my family in Idaho (Boise) right now! One of the Hostas in my shade bed I dug up out of my mom’s yard and brought back to Tennessee. I wouldn’t try to cover the whole greenhouse as it will defeat the purpose. You might just have a corner where you could create shade. Or even have a tree in the greenhouse that creates some dappled light and place the hosta in it. Idaho spring and fall will be great…but summers will definitely be a scorcher unless you are in mountain areas (Stanley, McCall, Sun Valley, etc) so giving it shade during the hottest months should help keep it healthy.
