Hello all! I’ve used this app before for house plants and they all thrived, but now I’ve moved on to herb and vegetable gardening. I’m unsure of what herbs are excellent pest control though. I know things like basil, mint and thyme are great for keeping away certain pests, but does anyone have any other recommendations that you’ve had success with? Preferably herbs that can also be used for cooking?

0 likes Planta has been great for keeping up with house plants but I’m a bit disappointed in the lack of responses on posts. I have found that Reddit boards will typically be the best place to have conversations about such topics

Which pests are you trying to protect them from? I have bird netting over mine so the birds don’t get to eat them , and I put used coffee grounds around the plants to keep the slugs at bay from below. My strawberry patch is next to my herb garden. There I have rosemary, chives, basil, thyme, sage, oregano, and lemon balm. I use the lemon balm to help repel mosquitos by rubbing the leaves on my skin while in the garden and then grab some more to muddle in a nice drink afterwards.
0 likes I have some sweet peppers, beets, cherry tomatoes and green beans I planted just the other day, and I’m waiting to get long rectangular pots before I plant my zucchini and squash seeds. For herbs I currently have thyme, basil, and chives, all of which I’ve heard can work for deterring certain pests, though I’ll have to do more research as to exactly which pests they keep away.
0 likesHerbs are great for deterring all sorts of creatures. Specifically I do not know which ones but the more the better. The only issue I can see arising is light control. The veggies that you have growing enjoy full sun, herbs typically like shade/indirect light. Rosemary is a good strong smelling(pest control) full sun herb. Keep it in a pot not the ground. It will grow HUGE if in the ground if allowed.
