I have two varieties of June bearing strawberries I put in pots this summer. I have pruned all runners and flowers in an effort to get the best root systems in place for next spring. Nights are starting to cool off in middle-Tennessee so I have relocated the pots into the garage to prevent root damage when we start getting freezing temps. I’ve heard that you should remove foliage down to about 1 1/2 inches above the crown for winter but am unsure if I still do this if they are in the garage? They are garaged earlier than I had planned just because I didn’t know what kind of damage the recent hurricane might do. I don’t really want to drag them back out into the yard for two or three more weeks but do feel like winterizing them is still too early. This is my fist year with strawberries so any suggestions or help is appreciated. I do have grow lights on them for 12 hours a day in the garage.
