Oh, ok…that’s easy! If you don’t pick them soon enough, they over ripen and turn yellow. If that’s what happened, you can let it get even bigger and fully mature so you can harvest seeds. We humans eat cucumber immature when it’s still green so it doesn’t have big seeds. Can you post a picture of the cucumber so I can verify we’re thinking of the same thing?

Well, my regular cucumber packet doesn’t have as much information, so it doesn’t tell me the temperatures. But Planta says about 70 to 90 as well, so the high temps are probably making your plant struggle and turn a little yellow. My plants like that usually struggle until around September, and then they produce through our first freeze in January. So hopefully you’ll get some more later on. I think you just left that cucumber on the vine too long, so that’s just a mature cucumber. They do turn yellow when they finally mature. Since we eat them immature, you’ll just have to choose to pick them around the size that this one was before it started turning yellow. If I remember right, you can’t really pick them too early once they’re a decent size, you can just pick them too late when they have matured and don’t taste as good. You can leave that one on the vine to mature a little more, the more mature the better if you want to collect seeds from it. Or you can just pick it off the vine and throw it away so your plant can put more energy into staying alive and maybe grow some more cucumbers for you.😊

Thanks so much !! Yeah I actually ended up picking it off just like you said to put more energy else where and I figured it’s not gunna get any greener lol so 😅 I’ll definitely have to pull sooner next time ! There’s other cucumbers so I’ll see if I can get it right lol. I wasn’t sure when to pull because the whole thing hadn’t filled out but I’ll surely pick it sooner next time !

I haven’t grown them in a few years, but if I remember correctly it was a spring plant which for me in Texas means pre-90’s.

I’m still looking for my cucumber packet, but my Mexican sour gherkin cucumbers say 70 to 90°. I usually start them in the spring and grow them until we have a freeze, but they definitely slow down and just exist when it’s around 100. They’re also partially in the shade so that helps.
