    Bulbs are able to handle autumn planting. And it's a good time to sow any seeds that like cold stratification (trees and wildflower mixes.)

    Sedum "autumn glory" if you want blooms. Walmart usually has them in bulk in my area, developed enough already that they'll bloom the same season you put them in the ground/pot. Very resilient, too! And easy to prop in spring. :)
