    How did you get this wild flower look. I'm trying to get something similar in a wild part of my garden but so far I've just grown grass haha

      This was done with a wildflower seed packet from Botanical Interests called “Water Wise Garden”! I planted the seeds in the first week of April after amending my soil with a bunch of nutrient rich compost (my soil was really dry and dusty from previous owners not planting or amending it.) Then I kept watering it consistently each day (for two weeks) for about 15 minutes to allow all the seeds to germinate. Didn’t really seed with much of a plan this time, definitely “chaos” gardened this bed for achieving the overgrown full look. I’m in zone 10A in Southern California, so our planting season looks a bit different than other places; but now I would focus on blends of wildflowers for the winter/spring time (cool season blooms) and plant summer (warm season) anywhere from January-May… possibly even to June all depending on where you are. It’s a tough time of year to start seeds in time for blooms, so it may require a bit of patience now depending where you are and might be why you’re struggling to get anything to take. But when you do it again in the future: I’d recommend lightly raking your beds, pre-moisten the soil for a day or two by watering BEFORE you seed, throw your seeds down and then lightly sprinkle dirt over top of them or gently press them into the soil. I like to cover them with a little dirt so that birds are less likely to find them. I LOVE Botanical Interests seeds and have found great success with everything I’ve planted from them.       You could probably still get Zinnias and Sunflowers to start though! I would focus on fast annuals or pre-planted starts if you want something to enjoy for the summer right now. Otherwise you’re looking at an October/November start for cool season blooms! 💙
