JillSSalvia is relatively low maintenance and doesn’t need/want too much pruning. It will depend on your zone for the exact month, but I prune twice a year. Some people do their harder trim back in late winter, however I see best results waiting until early spring/1st of March, to trim down to crown leaving 6-8” from the base. Then 2nd prune mid to late summer, usually late July for me, a more conservative trim of only the spent spikes that have browned or faded to encourage a second flush of smaller flowers throughout fall. If you trim dead head for instance every couple weeks through the summer as you see color fading, your blooms may all peak at different times in the fall. Hope this helps!
