Yesterday my phlox stem broke when I was moving it :( it is hanging in there, but should I cut it down completely or try to propagate it? Also, if Google tells me right this is a good spider for catching flies and other insects!

    Whoa! That spider is BEAUTIFUL! And yes, spiders are your plants friends! Try to propagate!
