Looking for ideas to keep chipmunks out of my garden. I just planted flowers yesterday and they were all dug up today!

I used a mixture of water, crushed garlic, cayenne pepper, and chili powder around the edges and wood of my raised boxes that hold vegetables and herbs. I haven’t seen a chipmunk since (knock on wood). They don’t like the smell. I just have to repeat it occasionally depending how much it rains and such. I’m also going to try rubber snakes for good measure. My grandmother used to do that for rodents and birds.

I honestly have no problem, we usually have a total of 20 squirrels, 10 chipmunks, and probably hundreds of birds a day 😂 They never eat my plants, so I can’t really relate, except some animal, it looked like a vole, dug in my Calla Lily’s pot, but no other problems.

I’ve tried all the things, cayenne, owl decoys, etc etc… nothing seems to keep the squirls from digging into my plant pots to burry their nuts. Lately, i’ve been approaching it like I do my cats & scratching.. give them a yes scratcher next to where you don’t want them to scratch. Squirls will be squirls, so instead of trying to stop them by saying no (deterrents), I have been trying to leave a bunch of pots with soil out (no plants in them) so they can dig in those. They certainly have been using them! Can’t say for sure they won’t continue with my planted pots, but so far its working. Maybe not in fall when they get manic about saving for winter. 🤪
