Hi! I wanted to try growing a plant in water instead of soil, but I am not sure which type to try. I thought of propagating my pothos, but it probably won’t do the best since it’s no longer growing season. If anyone has tips for the best types of plants to grow hydroponically lmk!
i just took my peace lily out of the store nursery pot and thought the roots looked really good and could maybe grow this in water. i have liquid fertilizer in the water but are there any other tips on growing in water? i’ve never planted this way before.
Orchids are thriving in water, going on 4 months now 🥰
First pup is growing like crazy- both it and Nadja OG have put out new leaves this week. And today I see ANOTHER pup?! 😯😳 Imma have to move her to a kiddie pool or something.

In my learning about LECA I’ve read lots of very different and even contradictory information. For example- when to refill the water and should that water always contain nutrients, the time table for flushing the plant, using a cache pot vs a hole-less pot… so honestly, I’ve taken all the info and smooshed it all together and forged my own path. 😂 Curious to know y’alls thoughts and opinions from your experiences. I figure if things are going well, I won’t change anything- but it’s nice to have proven methods *just in case*.🤞 I’m also glad I went against some info and used a clear receptacle for my first venture- in part for the ability to see what’s going on with the root system in case issues arise, and also… it’s effin’ cool. 😂
This is my first time using LECA and I wanted to share my experience so far with my Anthuriums transitioning from soil to LECA. I’m following the LECA Addict process almost exactly (see my nutrient water formula below). I received the Queen and Luxurian 8/12 and put them in LECA immediately. I cut 2 older small leaves off from the Queen along with the majority of its roots besides 3 short thick ones. I cut off the smallest Luxurian leaf and left maybe a fist size amount of roots. I thoroughly cleaned the soil off the root systems and used 3% hydrogen peroxide. 3 weeks later, the Queen had an ear lobe yellow and has a few new roots coming in. The Luxurians root system is thriving and has a ton of new roots. No new leaves from both Today I transitioned my Silver Blush and Magnificum as well. The Magnificum was 2 plants, so I separated them. The uglier one is just in water and I’m using as an experiment. Some of you know the Magnificums history ⚡️so let’s see how she does :) Hydroton LECA - rinsed 3 times and soaked 3 times for over 3 days Distilled Water - 1 Gallon General Hydroponics CalMag - CalMagic - 5ml Growth Technology Foliage Focus 15-20ml RapidStart - 1-2ml Plant Revolution Orca Premium Liquid Mycorrhizae - 2ml Mr. Fulvic - 1ml pH up / pH down (if needed). I aim for 6-6.5
Going to LECA was the best “risk” I’ve taken in a long time. She was struggling so hard and now is doing so, SO well- it’s always wild to me how cool nature is. And today I saw I’m being doubly rewarded for taking the leap to hydro. I’m looking forward to trying other hydro mediums in the future… fighting the urge to switch ALL THE THINGS over, which is just silly goose thinking. 🙃😂
Hi, I have a few plants and have done a few water propagations but I see some plants absolutely ✨THRIVING✨ in water. How do you get such large root systems? Should I be using fertilizer? If so, which is best? Halp please! 🥺
I have typically never had a problem rooting pothos, though I recently cut up a big plant after a mealy infestation and several of the stems actually rotted in the water? No roots ever grew either. Even when I had nodes under the water. Any ideas why this happened?? I was so sad, 75% of the plant ended up dying :( don’t want it to happen again!
So, I was chopping off some Basil for cooking and dried half of it and kept half of it fresh by sticking it in water. Suddenly I noticed one of the chops had grown roots! 🤯 So this got me thinking: I have a hydroponics kit for kids and thought to take a go at it. More little roots grew and died back. But then I noticed the alive root were getting longer! Way to go Barcelona II!!
So, I got this. Could I grow it hydroponically?
Our first little jalapeño in our baby hydro garden. We did a “chop and flip” set up, so we have little fishies in the bottom!
Can I bring this guy back? It was in a pot and I noticed it was getting super droopy and yellowing. I went to check the roots and… root rot! I’m putting the two stems in distilled water only… is this the best way? I’ve never tried this method before.
putting liquid nutrients into my monstera for the first time, hopefully i see some new growth, I think the roots are well developed enough to start having nutrients!
Little update on one of the converted glass bottles turned self-watering planter, this plant is so happy and has developed a ton of new roots 🤩
Pon vs. Leca - opinions and knowledge wanted please! Wanting to learn something new and experiment with some plants, I already have Leca (and had no idea what to do with it 😆) … I’m curious what your opinions are on pon vs. leca TIA ☺️
One month of growth :) not only are there pups but also new growth in the center of the mother plants and more roots!
