I’m new to hydroponic plants, this being one of my first. I’m shocked by the fantastic growth she’s had, since she was put into PON. However, I’m concerned that she has sprouted all these new roots, none of which were showing when she was transferred into PON; now they are all long enough to be in the water medium. I’ve read that roots should not be in water because of possible root rot. What should I do? If I lower the water level, there won’t be any water showing in the window. TIA for any comments and help! PS. She’s so happy that she has had two flowers which I haven’t seen in a very long time.

    people propagate plants in water and leave them in water for a very long time i think they should be okay because they are a custom to the water :)

    I would just trim them back if they get too much. But a few in the water shouldn'tmatter. The pon gives more air circulation to the roots and really makes them explode.

      Some of my self watering pots have windows, and I’m keeping those about half full with H2O; however, these by TAU are confusing. Do you know where the water level should go on these pots? Also, what kind of fertilizer, etc. are you using with your pots? TIA!

      I asked this question under the PON/LECA group, no answer yet. Can I reuse PON from a plant that didn’t make it? Not due to illness, it just had very fine roots, and I think I tried too hard to clean the debris from them. TIA!

      The water just has to be touching the wick. I just use my regular fertilizers as they are all hydroponic rated. Yes, you can re-use pon. You can sterilize it with boiling water for a few minutes, if you suspect the previous plant died of something.

      Oops! I missed your reply, but TXS or the info. This transfer to PON is sure hard on some plants. I’ve lost one, and I think I’m losing my big fern, plus several are not real perky, as of yet. Maybe ferns are some I shouldn’t have tried to transfer to PON, IDK! How do you know which plants will transfer easily to PON? Obviously, I’ve discovered those with very fine roots, are not very good candidates, or else I need to learn to leave more dirt on the roots. Again, IDK! Do you? PS. How many plants have you transferred to PON, and how many haven’t made it? TIA!

      I haven't put any new plants in PON yet. So still have only lost the one small corm plantlet, from the mold that happened on it.

    When they start showing rot, just clip them off.

    Its only the original soil roots that must be above the water line and will rot if sitting in water. Those new roots are water roots and they are accustomed to living in water and more resilient. They can sit in the water reservoir without worrying about root rot.

      TXS for relieving my worries! I guess my plant must be very happy since she’s growing all those roots!
