Hi, I've been struggling with a couple of alocasia even after placing them in a chunky ariod mix. They're starter plants, but have really nice roots. I have a few pothos, spider, & small monstera in either hydro or semi-hydro set ups, so I know very the basics. But, is it OK if I place these 3 alocasias into the same container? And which type of set-up is best? Or maybe I saw one set up with a bottom layer of leca and roots wrapped moss? Any thoughts?
You can put multiple alocasia plants or corms in the same pot. You just dont want to pot to be too large that it stays wet too long and causes rot issues. I personally prefer to have them in chunky mix or a pon mix. I wouldn't use moss personally it stays very wet, especially for a med to large mature plant. Corms I start in perlight/stratum/milled moss, then when they have roots move to just pon or chunky.

I have switched almost all my alocasias over to leca and they are doing much better than in soil. I have combined different alocasias into the same pot with no problems.

So I’m learning that some alocasia and colacasia don’t do as well in hydro/semi hydro. My colocasia mojito failed and turns out it prefers moist soil to a hydro environment. But another colocasia did well. Alocasia are the same…. Some subspecies do well and some don’t. My point… Which species of alocasia are you struggling with? There may be more species specific care that will help you grow them out more successfully. Or one may prefer a semi environment over full hydro. I have a bog setup that most would cry root rot about but certain plants do better in. (My peace lily babies are loving it as one example)
0件のいいね The 3 I moved to leca non-drain are a Sarian, Okinawa, & Tigrina Superba- elephant ear. They're all starters with with very healthy roots. I lost 2 (a jacklyn & a quilted dream), that were in chunky ariod mixes from rot and thought I'd try hydro with these 3 new ones to keep an eye on the roots.
