Omg how did I not know there was a semi hydro group?! Anyways I have a question, I’ve been growing my alocasias in pon/stratum/perlite (in mason jars or self watering pots). Do I need to remove the mushy soil roots I can see in the jar? I do see water roots growing! It would just be so hard to get to them lol. From what I hear in the pots it’s ok because they desenagrate and wash out the bottom eventually but how do you take care of them in the jars?
Have you seen Leca Queen on YouTube? She has a flippin jungle growing in Leca & has often said that Alocasia is the only plant she cannot grow. I’m by no means expert & very much a novice myself but have a sense Alocasia is so hard in Leca because roots are too fine & hate sitting in any kind of damp environment 🤷♀️ I’m keen to see how you get on as I’d ordered Leca specifically for my Alocasia’s before I started watching her videos 🤦♀️

I absolutely love the Leca Queen and have watched all her videos! But have you seen Our Lucky Roots on Insta? They have a lot of Alocasias that are thriving in pon! I have a Dragon Scale that is in pon in a lechuza mini-cubi self watering pot and it’s doing really well. I don’t think I’d dare trying any Alocasias in leca, but with the smaller roots I feel like they’re doing very well in pon. And with the mini-cubi pots (using the wick method), they’re never sat in a too damp environment.

1 gilla Alocasias are actually one of the best that take to pin it leca… I’ve watched many YouTube videos with people who have them absolutely thriving. Usually in pon but definitely in leca as well. It’s just a learning process and takes patience. The question I just can’t seem to find the answer to is about the dead soil roots
