In my learning about LECA Iā€™ve read lots of very different and even contradictory information. For example- when to refill the water and should that water always contain nutrients, the time table for flushing the plant, using a cache pot vs a hole-less potā€¦ so honestly, Iā€™ve taken all the info and smooshed it all together and forged my own path. šŸ˜‚ Curious to know yā€™alls thoughts and opinions from your experiences. I figure if things are going well, I wonā€™t change anything- but itā€™s nice to have proven methods *just in case*.šŸ¤ž Iā€™m also glad I went against some info and used a clear receptacle for my first venture- in part for the ability to see whatā€™s going on with the root system in case issues arise, and alsoā€¦ itā€™s effinā€™ cool. šŸ˜‚

    I had the exact same experience researching LECA. What one source says is critical to do, another says you should never do. Huh? So Iā€™m right there with you, figuring it out as I go. I hope you have the best of luck!

      So. Frustrating. And then of course you have another source saying ā€œLECA is garbage- why are you even considering it?!ā€ šŸ˜‚ Fingers crossed for the both of us.

    Yes Iā€™m having the same experience with pon!!! Iā€™m using mason jars with no holes and self watering pots. What info I canā€™t findā€¦ in the jars without holes, do I need to remove the mushy soil roots even though water roots are growing? I donā€™t want to disturb the roots since alocasia are fussy

      I cleaned the soil from the roots when I moved to LECA- I wouldnā€™t remove the roots themselves, but try to clean the soil from them as best as possible. ā˜ŗļø

      Iā€™m talking about once itā€™s been in there awhile and some soil roots turn mushyā€¦ I leave them be? Thatā€™s what Iā€™m thinkingā€¦ I donā€™t think it will end up turning the water roots bad so thereā€™s no need to remove them

      But yeah I found so much contradictory info out there itā€™s insane. What Iā€™ve been doing is taking them out of soil, washing the roots, sticking them in water for a month or soā€¦ then I fill a jar with pon and put them in it. I then notice a few weeks later that soil roots are turning mushy and water roots are growing. Some people say to get back in there and remove those dead soil rootsā€¦ others say donā€™t because youā€™ll be disturbing the water roots and could potentially kill them too. So Iā€™m guessing to just leave the mushy dead soil roots alone. However I donā€™t know how I would flush this properly. The mason jars have no holes. Iā€™ve seen pon & leca used without holes in the jarsā€¦ but I donā€™t think thereā€™s a way to flush honestly. I canā€™t find info on it. And like you, I couldnā€™t find where the water level should be at all times. I filled it to the roots and left it there until I seen it going downā€¦ now I donā€™t know where that level should be. I canā€™t get any experts to answer my questions. Iā€™ve never been so frustrated in my life. I guess at this point it will be trial & error on my part to see what works and what doesnā€™t.
