Why do my lemon lime corn plant leaves keep dying? Could it be root rot? He keeps putting out new growth but dying as fast as he’s growing! I have been cutting off the brown leaves. Is that a good idea? Pls help!

AdrianDefinitely check the roots, if the roots are healthy, try to rule out possible pests, sun damage, lack of nutrients or overfertilization, and if none of the above, it could be fungal. I have a Hosta that came with anthracnose, which is unfortunately common with hostas, but the roots were healthy, so I repotted it and it only worsened. I ended up treating it with Bonide’s Copper Fungicide (and my neighbor suggested adding copper pennies to the top of the soil) and having to chop all of the remaining leaves off. It was scary to do so, but I added hydrogen peroxide to the water the next time I watered it, and it started growing new leaves within three days! Hope this helps!

eatyacarbsIt definitely sounds like root rot. These types of pots with the attached dish tend to hang onto water forever 😖 Just pull it out and give it a peek and a sniff. Cut away anything mushy & black and if you’ve got enough left put it in a smaller pot — terra cotta is a good cheap and fast drying option. Adrian’s peroxide solution tip is a good one I would also do — good luck!

Green WitchI had trouble with mine as well, and when I pulled it out of the dirt and cleaned it off it looked healthy, so I didn’t know what was wrong, but I saw at Lowe’s they had one in straight water, I have had mine in water for a few months now and it’s thriving, I never figure out why it was dying, I thought maybe that’s what it’s supposed to do since it was growing and the bigger leaves were dying off, I researched as well and it gave no help, I’d like to know the cause as well, but mine is thriving in water.
