Is it a Norfolk pine?

Cute! Evergreens might die indoors eventually anyway, so don’t feel bad if this one does too. They often need cold and humidity you can’t provide indoors.

Would it live in a potting shed

Depends on the type and where you live. Most conifers will be happier outside your front door or on a balcony during the summer, where they can get the light they need, and then the winter in your potting shed if it’s nice and cool but sheltered. Norfolk Island pines can grow indoors really well though, that’s the one exception to that rule. And also—maybe I’m wrong, that’s just what I’ve been told.
