I really want a ZZ plant however I can’t afford to pay £30 for one - what’s the cheapest place to get them?

    You might get lucky just browsing around at your local nurseries and plant shops. You could always buy from a trusted seller online but since the Zz is pretty common I’m not sure it would be worth it when you factor in the actual size of the plant + shipping/tax cost. Maybe someone will chime in with a good spot. This Zz was purchased at a local nursery for $12USD in late march.

    My Walmart has had some lately! I’ve also seen them at Home Depot (both for relatively cheap)

    I feel like ZZ plants are one of the few plants that got MORE expensive after the quarantine plant boom. And it doesn’t make sense to me since I see them for sale everywhere. I don’t think the big chain hardware stores have any business selling a 4” pot ZZ for $20-30, and I stand by that 😝 I’m completely unaware of the stores and greenhouses in the UK, but I often have good luck on local plant sale/swap facebook pages. Lots of people in my group do “plant purges” where they sell of a lot of their collection to make room for new addictions—I mean additions 😉 And sometimes someone will offer for free a huge old house plant that would sell for hundreds at a bougie plant shop, but they just want someone who will love it to take it off their hands and give it the care it needs ☺️

    if you live in the states i’d recommend home depot, zamzows, or walmart. check your local nurseries also because sometimes you can get them discounted!

    Try apps for locals in the UK including OfferUp, Letgo and Mercari. I use OfferUp in the US because the prices are generally less on rare cuttings. The full size plants are good prices if you search in a postal code in warmer areas. I buy a lot of full size plants in Southern California, Florida and Texas!
