I just noticed this mushroom growing in my Ficus Altissimiss (Council Tree). I watered it last week and I go by Plantas recommendation for when to water. I keep it there and it drains into a bowl. I was planning on repotting because the top soil is starting to look crusty. Should I be worried?!
Fungi and plants often have a symbiotic relationship in the wild. Mushrooms on their own are not a sign of danger or bad things, just that a spore found a good environment to grow in and eventually produced a mushroom! This yellow fellow looks be to a lepiota lutea otherwise known as the yellow parasol or flower pot parasol. It’s not harming the plant but it is poisonous so don’t eat it. If you have pets, children, or an exceptionally hungry partner, I’d remove the mushroom and repot the plant in new potting mix after thoroughly cleaning the roots. Mushrooms grow from mycelium which are very likely spread throughout the soil and if conditions continue to be good, more mushrooms will sprout from your soil (since the mycelium will continue to live) and if you don’t clean the roots well, spores from this mushroom may be present when you replant. If none of the above applies, I’d enjoy the little ecosystem you’ve helped create and the view of the little yellow friend!
