I have this wonderful Alocasia which is doing well so far. One of my stems broke in transport 🥲 and im wondering how far I have to cut it down so the open stem doesn’t impact other leaves via bacteria etc. Any help appreciated 😊

Cutting it won’t stop bacterial growth. It’s likely a cutting tool will pass on bacteria. I recommend leaving it alone. It has started to callous and dry out. The plant is protecting itself. That stub will eventually dry out and fall off. New leaves will grow out 🍀🪴

I would recommend taking some of that soil and rubbing it on the open stem that you have cut. This will avoid any bacteria getting in there as it’s quite vulnerable to it now. It will dry it out in no time!

This is not a course of action I would recommend. It’s equivalent to rubbing dirt into a cut on your leg. It will spread bacteria and potentially cause the plant to rot.

I don’t know if you can compare human skin to a plant that grows out of soil but it has worked for. My sources were a few of the gardening blogs and experts (it won’t let me link them but you can see “My City Plants” on YouTube they recommend it) but I definitely am not an expert!! So please do what you feel is best OP. It’s dried out the stems really well for me but 1) I didn’t have any disease / issues in the soil and 2) my plant is overall really healthy.

Do you recommend any alocasia to put in a pot in full sun?
