HELP!! my prayer plant is looking sad, getting a new leaf but looks to be dropping the oldest one? one is very very flimsy where the other leaves are quite firm and “facing”. i do water with tap water which i see this plant can be lime sensitive but i was wondering besides changing to distilled if i’m doing anything wrong???
Can you give more info? Humidity? Soil? Recent location/environment change? Is it getting direct sun right now?
2 likesi got him about a week ago and repotted to a bigger size so i could have growth, watered once i repotted in a mix of tropical and regular potting soil, i keep him by my balcony door during the day and on the mantel about a foot away at night (i do this cause he gets more light that way) i mist and water him when the app tells me to as well. i will admit it’s dry in my house so i do mist a bit more and i just cleaned his leaves in case that was that issue

The pot looks big for the plant. This is my maranta and it’s in a 4” pot.
ooo ok should i try to size down right away or wait cause i just did a repot
1 like They like the soil to be moist, and having the right sized pot will help do this without risking root rot.

0 likes Thank you. I’d probably wait to size down, but just be aware of the size of the pot when considering whether to water or not. Let it settle in, then size down when you can.
3 likes They tend to be very dramatic plants, so it’s not uncommon for them to shock with repotting, especially so soon after a change in environment. A few things to help it recover moving forward: In my experience they like a pretty moist environment, so as long as the soil drains well don’t be afraid to keep watering. They also tend to curl up and crisp in low humidity, so ideally a bathroom window or near a humidifier. If you don’t have that, I’d do the trick of setting the pot on a tray of water (with some pebbles so it’s not just consistently wet). I personally am not a fan of misting, but others with maranta in drier conditions might also weigh in.
2 likesok i have been looking at getting a humidifier i had another lady suggest one from amazon so i think overall my plants would love some humidity! thank you for the suggestions 🩷

I’ve been told (for my Calathea) the curling leaves are lack of humidity and drooping leaves are too much sun. Mine is in a humidity tank now so the leaves never curl but they’re drooping and I was told it’s cuz I have a grow light on for too long. Was told 12 hours is way too much and that I should cut it back to 6.
1 likeI was also told by a plant shop owner that they are super sensitive to being moved and filtered light is a sweet spot for them

0 likesUPDATE: now i fell extremely dumb because i think he was just thirsty !!! i watered him fully today and his leaves are already uncurling, never had a plant as dramatic as me before 😅😅😅
1 like Haha 😂 what direction is it facing? I would do east if you can. Too much sun and it will make the plant sad
