I inherited this plant from a friend, whose daughter was moving. I don’t know anything about its history really. It had to survive a 5-hour drive to my house. Then I cut off all the dead parts and fertilized it and watered it really good and then I’ve left it alone ever since. Right now, I have it in my bathroom, which is the most humid place I have. There’s no windows, but I do have some grow lights in there for my other tropical plants. I’ve noticed all the places that I added more topsoil and fertilizer and watered, sort of have pits around the stems and some little white spots on some of the foliage. I’ve never really had much luck with this plant type so if anybody has any suggestions, I am open to them! I would really like - bare minimum- for it to not die, but thriving would be even better.

It looks like this plant has gone through a lot. It looks like at some point it was under watered, then overwatered, then it didn’t get enough light, then some of its new growth died off. It might of also got over misted because of the mist spots, you could just use a damp tissue to remove them. The plant looks pretty strong can I think it could get through it. I recommend looking at the roots and maybe repotting into chunky soil and better drainage. Once you do that, and give it a grow light you can just leave it alone and it should grow way more.

Thank you so much for the feedback! It’s definitely gone through a lot, even just to get to my house. I’ll have to take a look at the bottom of the pot and the soil to see what the drainage is like. I know it has some because it has the tray and the holes in the bottom.

I have a love/hate relationship with mine. But she’s one of my “oldest” plants and I’m always trying to find the “right” placement for her. (My profile is “open” you can take a look at her). She was doing REALLY well about 3 feet from a west facing window and a grow light above her during the winter. I’m in the Pacific NW so it’s mostly cloudy during fall/winter. She lived there until I had to set up my summer portable AC in that window. I knew that while the light was probably GREAT. Being near the AC wasn’t gonna cut it. So I had to move her where she’ll get a little bit of east light and live under my plant wall where the grow lights are probably not gonna cut it because they’re too far from her. Hopefully she survives until Fall when she can go back to the west window

Also, I have heard that once you find the right “place” you shouldn’t move them 😬

That’s funny. I’m in the Pacific Northwest too and I initially put it in my bedroom and then it got hot and I was like nope you’re going in the bathroom. I like it a crisp 65 in my room. 😆 At least in the bathroom, it stands a chance. That’s where I have my humidity loving plants.

I definitely need a cold room to sleep in 😂. And the 90 degree weather can skip rocks. I was raised here and anything over 80 is 👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼 for me 😂

We have a plant in common. I think it’s ready to transplant, but I’m always scared to traumatize plants and that I’m gonna kill it when I do that. All I’ve ever done is water it. And it seems to love the neglect.😆
