Pothos, spider plant, monstera! 3 of my favorites and they are beginner friendly. PLUS they grow fairly quickly so there is a lot of satisfaction watching them grow. It starts an obsession lol Good luck to your granddaughter on her plant journey!

I was gifted a pothos & bought a zz plant around the same time, my first 2 plants. Both easy & satisfying. If I had to pick 1 I’d say pothos because they grow profusely & are real confidence boosters.

You just can’t go wrong with a pothos! 🤭 ZZ’s are fun too!!

For fast gratification outdoors, start zinnias from seed. For food gardening, tomato. For a beginner tropical, philodendron or pothos. If she likes watering often or wants to try a terrarium, ferns or nerve plant. If she's likely to forget watering, barrel cactus. If she wants to try bonsai, ficus benjamina. If she'd like to get into orchids, jewel orchids are good starter terrestrials, and phalaenopsis are good starter epiphytes (no ice cubes and avoid getting the crown wet). For a super durable, nearly unkillable plant that is easy to restart from cuttings if mistakes are made: african violets

I chose these four because they are different and cute and they grow very fast. Since they haven’t died, they don’t die easily. None of them were very shocked with their transplant either.
