I gifted my daughter-in-law a new blue banana musa tree because I have one that has grown into a healthy 6’ tree since September, 2025 which I’m growing indoors. I bought her a pot exactly like mine but she’s chosen to keep outdoors (in Indiana) until the cold weather sets in in the Fall. Today she sent me a photo and when I saw it my heart sank a little. Can anyone tell me what’s going on with it? I don’t know if she is overwatering or if it’s too hot for the poor thing? I’m not familiar with growing it outside. Why are the leaves so bent over? It IS, however sprouting a new leaf. Is it my imagination that there’s something wrong with it? Thank you so much for any help you can give me to advise her.

it could be too hot. new growth is encouraging, it'll be okay! is the spot it's in right now where it normally lives? it may be too bright and too hot, especially for a baby tree. it needs some shade.

I currently have 6 Musas. Got rid of 5 in the spring. In my opinion, I could be wrong, but it looks like it needs more watering. They like full sun so I’d say the sun is not the issue. Hardy plant, as you can see new growth. Ask your daughter how often she waters it. It being outside in the hot can dry out the soil very quick.
