Dusty

Hi, first post since joining Planta. My lily has 2 leaves that are separating from the trunk of the plant. The plant is doing really well other than that. Is this normal shedding or should I be concerned. Thanks in advance.

I’m not familiar with growing this plant but I wanted to say that The growth pattern is very beautiful. 😍

What’s the name of this plant? It if it keeps producing more leaves I don’t see it being much of a problem. You could use some kind of binding method to help keep it together at the bottom but it seems like the more it grows the wait from the top is causing it to separate. Hopefully someone will have a better answer, but these are just my thoughts! She’s beautiful btw

Thank you. It’s a Clivia miniata, or natal lily. I suspect you are right that they do shed leaves from the bottom as they grow, that would make sense, but I don’t have any experience. It is producing new leaves from the centre and is quite healthy. It was my mother’s plant but she sadly passed recently so I’m determined to look after her.

I’m incredibly sorry about your loss. You’re doing a great job with taking care of her, she would be proud! The stem looks healthy and I think this baby is just flourishing. If you start feeling mushy leaves or seeing any color change then that’s something of concern. For now, just continue enjoying her. Try not to over water. This plant has thicker leaves so it stores more water than usual. A user on here “PlantyAnn” told me about a skewer/chopstick trick to make sure it’s time to water. Well wishes Dusty ❤️
