I’m new to the plant world and so far 3 of my plants have died or are dying. My struggle is my cat likes to try to eat everything but my succulent. I am working on getting some shelves for my wall to keep them away from him. Any suggestions for green or leafy house plants that are safe around animals?
Hoyas are pet safe. African violets, as well. I recommend growing catnip, barley or wheatgrass to attract cats to them rather than your expensive potted plants. Seeds and growing kits sell for under $20 online.

Orchids are pet safe, although most will not be happy to be nibbled on. Sunny has a good point that providing your cat something they can chomp, and gently guiding them to that when they try to eat your houseplants, can be effective.

You could go to a nursery and use the Planta app to take snapshots of the plants you like to bring them up on your screen which will include whether they’re toxic or not, and then buy accordingly.

Idk if this helps but cats also hate the feel of tinfoil and pinecones, so I put it around the bottom of my plants to keep them from peeing in it!
